Cold Plasma Technologies

All SENTINEL™ brand air sanitizers are smart choices for anyone who wants to invest in protecting and maintaining health while preserving indoor air quality. All SENTINEL™ devices are proven solutions for effectively sanitizing air and surfaces in various environments. These innovative devices work with great efficiency by emitting Cold Plasma*, this unparalleled technology destroys microbiological contaminants such as bacteria, molds, viruses and volatile organic compounds.

* Cold plasma, non-thermal plasma and bipolar ionization are 3 equivalent ways to define the technology.

Cold Plasma Generator* – Proliferation Inhibitor** – Pathogens Propagation ***
  • Much like sunlight in the atmosphere, cold plasma technology (bipolar ionization) produces a natural bioclimate rich in positive and negative oxygen ions. Negative ions contain an extra electron while positive ions lack an electron, resulting in an unstable condition. In an effort to re-stabilize, these bipolar ions seek out atoms and molecules in the air to exchange electrons with them, this principle effectively neutralizes airborne contaminants. Inactivation of airborne pathogens by cold plasma provides a more efficient means of bringing healthy indoor air than is offered by conventional filter devices

  • Cold plasma leads to an absence or a reduction (inhibits) of a behavior (proliferation) of undesirable microorganisms which, in another similar situation, had been present or stronger. A growth inhibitor, such as the cold plasma generator causes a physicochemical reaction that slows down a process and/or hinders it.

  • The propagation of airborne pathogens is the source of airborne disease transmission. They are airborne by small particles over time and distance. These diseases are numerous and of considerable incidence in human medicine. The pathogens concerned can be viruses, bacteria, or fungi. Respiratory and other pathogens can be emitted by breathing, speaking, singing, coughing, sneezing, spitting, and screaming. The propagation of any pathogen attached to fine solid particles or small liquid droplets is maintained by their suspension in the air (microparticle re-flight) Viruses and other pathogenic contaminants can be transmitted from one person to another when an infected person coughs or sneezes, or spreads through contact with contaminated surfaces.

Sentinel Air Solutions uses several methods to measure the effectiveness of its products. It is the responsibility of customers to evaluate their specific applications and indoor environmental conditions when evaluating the potential benefits of the technology. It is understood that customers must also take reasonable safety precautions to curb the transmission of pathogens of all kinds including SARS-COV-2. The customer should not rely exclusively on our products to contain it or prevent the spread of disease. At all times it remains essential to comply with all applicable public health laws and directives issued by federal, provincial, and municipal authorities, including, but not limited to, social distancing, hand hygiene, cough etiquette and the wearing of face masks.

The 4 stages of cold plasma operation.

How bipolar ionization purifies the air of its pollutants.
Suspended particles in the air are chargedby ions, which makes clump them together and, when the negative ion concentration in the air is high enough, they are then attracted in large numbers by the floating particles. The particles then become too heavy to stay suspended in the air. Therefore, the particles fall, which prevents them to be inhaled into the respiratory airways.
The most dangerous microorganisms, such as mold spores, bacteria and viruses, bind to oxygen ions and then are instantly destroyed.
Gases and odorous aerosols will be oxidized on contact with oxygen ions and will quickly be neutralized.
Oxygen ions cause a chemical reaction with the dangerous volatile organic compounds (VOC) in breaking down their molecular structure.

The SANITOR™ professional air sanitizer works on the principle of cold plasma generation (non-thermal). It is intended to disinfect and reduce or inhibit the growth or development of microbiological organisms, including bacteria, fungi, viruses and VOCs in a multitude of indoor environments. The hundreds of millions of bipolar ions not only destroy contaminants in the air but also act on contaminants found on inanimate surfaces. Additionally, by its very nature, cold plasma possesses the power to destroy unwanted fumes and odors of all kinds.
Much like sunlight in the atmosphere, cold plasma technology (bipolar ionization) produces a natural bioclimate rich in positive and negative oxygen ions. Negative ions contain an extra electron while positive ions lack an electron, resulting in an unstable condition. In an effort to re-stabilize, these bipolar ions seek out atoms and molecules in the air to exchange electrons with them. This principle effectively neutralizes particles, bacteria and viral cells, odorous gases and aerosols and VOCs. Inactivation of airborne pathogens by cold plasma provides a more efficient means of bringing healthy indoor air than is offered by conventional filter devices. A non-thermal plasma chamber generating hundreds of millions of bipolar ions will have the potential to produce healthier air better than any other conventional method currently available on the market.
Bipolar ionization technology such as that used in the SANITOR™ has demonstrated that non-thermal plasma can inactivate 99.9% of airborne viruses, bacteria, and mold spores by releasing energetic fragments and loaded with air molecules that can destroy viruses in a fraction of a second. The cold plasma is produced in a non-thermal plasma chamber. When pathogens in the air pass through the ion chamber, they react with its unstable atoms called radicals. These modify the lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids of the micro-organisms they encounter either by destroying the pathogenic agents or by simply rendering them harmless.
Particles suspended in the air are charged by ions causing them to cluster together and when there is a high enough concentration of negative ions in the air then they will be attracted to the floating particles in large number. This causes the particles to become too heavy to stay suspended in the air. As a result, the particles will fall from the air, thereby preventing them from being inhaled into the respiratory tract. 1. The most harmful microorganisms such as bacteria and viruses bind to oxygen ions and are instantly destroyed by oxidation. 2. Gases and odorous aerosols oxidize on contact with oxygen ions and are quickly neutralized. 3. Oxygen ions cause a chemical reaction with Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) by breaking down their molecular structures.
SANITOR™ air sanitizers create cold (non-thermal) plasma by sending ultra-fast electrons through the surrounding air. These electrons strike the atoms and molecules with so much energy that they pull the outer electrons from the atoms and molecules of the gas, creating a loose mixture of free electrons and free ions. The cold (non-thermal) plasma generator technology of the SANITOR™ safely cleans indoor air, removes contaminants, and restores a fresh, clean smell!
The SANITOR™ professional air sanitizer is a next-generation electronic device that acts directly on unwanted contaminants by destroying microbiological organisms suspended in the air as well as on inanimate surfaces. Unlike filtration air purifiers that filter or trap particles in an air circulator, the SANITOR™ device works to directly destroy biological contaminants of micron and submicron sizes. A pathogenic aerosol generated by sneezing or coughing will take a long time to be processed by a filter air purifier simply because these air circulators are not able to process all the air in the room simultaneously.
